Approach to Clinical Supervision

As a qualified supervisor I offer a creative, person centred theoretical orientation to supervision. I am able to provide supervision sessions that offer verbal, nonverbal and creative methods to explore and express

content. A person centred approach enables me to be non-directive, providing a space that offers the

opportunity to be ‘in relationship’ with another. I aim to develop a safe and trusting relationship in which the supervisee can be supported both personally and professionally.

Theory indicates change is brought about by conditions, the three core conditions being empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruency. I aspire to provide these core conditions within the supervisory space. I aim to develop a positive supervisory relationship in which the supervisee can be supported both personally and professionally.  However, noting the difference between therapy and supervision.

The Seven Eyed Model of Supervision

I apply the use of The Seven Eyed Model by Hawkins and Shohet as a useful framework in which to facilitate supervision.  The model explains that there are many different levels operating at any time during supervision, these levels can involve the supervisor, supervisee, the client, approaches used and wider context.  The focus of supervision sessions can shift accordingly between these seven eyes as a point of reference, see below for examples.
