What is Dramatherapy (Arts Psychotherapy)?

Sometimes, talking can be limiting or we find ourselves in situations in life in which we don't have the words. Dramatherapy is a form of psychotherapy that provides additional ways of working alongside talking to allow individuals to further explore and express through creative and non verbal means. Individuals do not need any experience in the arts to engage.

Approaches to Dramatherapy:

"Dramatherapist's work with creative activities, embodied experiences, and theatre practices to help their clients re-imagine, work-through and make changes in their lives"

We can work with your difficulties directly or, if you are not ready to explore in this way, we can work indirectly through story and metaphor. Working indirectly can be incredibly valuable when processing things that you may have been subjected to that have been traumatic or experiences you find  hard to express using talking alone. Using an indirect approach can create distance to offer a safer way of processing aspects of your life and parts of self.

I work from a client centred approach, tailoring sessions to each individual. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is of extreme significance when working through difficulties. Individuals are guided towards exploring issues at their own pace, using the most suitable verbal, non verbal and creative methods for them.

This form of therapy can be beneficial for a variety of individuals and all ages. It is a strength based and inclusive approach, able to meet with the many needs across ages and from varying cultures and societies.
